You are not alone in this
This is my view from the window every morning. And every morning I am full of gratitude for living where I am.
The world has changed a lot within the past few months, even weeks. Only time can show how those changes will affect our life longterm.
Meanwhile, I thought I would compile a list of my favourite indoor activities for those who are getting stir crazy already. As a true introvert and a hermit, my routine hasn’t changed much. However, I do enjoy a breath of fresh air once in a while.
Art and creativity are going to be your best friends while you are practicing social distancing. It is entertaining and soothing for your mental health.
Here are some of the things that I enjoy doing:
create a photo challenge with your family members (take photos of sunrises/sunsets out of your window or photos of your pets, house plants, etc); you can share your photos on social media to keep yourself accountable;
dig out a cookbook or your family recipes and try making simple meals to diversify your diet (it doesn’t have to be fancy. I like browsing through Jamie Oliver’s website as he has cheap and easy recipes in abundance)
go through your pantry and meal plan (it will help with grocery shopping and relieve a “panic buying” urge)
learn a new skill or a language (YouTube is a great source for anything, or you can go to Coursera/Udemy/Open University if you are looking for something more profound; for languages I use Duolingo)
finally read through your “to be read” pile (mine is shelves of books… I can probably sustain myself for a couple of years…)
or go online to your public library / Overdrive and check out books there
go through your closets and decide what you can donate or recycle
journal/art journal/free write to relieve anxiety
colour or paint or start knitting
rewatch Friends or your favourite “comfort” TV show
listen to music as you work from home (sometimes it helps to concentrate)
listen to podcasts and/or audiobooks (your library might have some for free if you are not obsessed with Audible like me)
start an online book club, social media account, blog or YT channel - right now it is the best time to express yourself via social media
speaking of talking - schedule regular check-ins and conversations over Skype or FaceTime with your friends and family whom you are not able to visit in person (it might even help if you dress up and put on make-up for those sessions, so that feels like a real outing)
I think this is all I can think of at the moment. I will add more ideas to the list if I remember anything else.
Take care of yourself and your loved ones.
xoxo
